Artful Teabag Prep: Create Now!

Cleaning your teabags

Today will be a short post on preparing tea bags to use in mixed media.  I love the staining and grunginess that they bring into a piece of art.  Translucency is also a big plus.

The number one thing to remember is your tea bags must be thoroughly dry for the best results.  Next, you will need to cut the string.  I prefer to use an Exacto blade because it can get into that tiny thread to remove.  Next is opening your teabag.  Now, this all depends on the type of teabag you use.  I have included a video for the directions on that.

I must say that Twinings tea bags are wonderful because they open up into a nice big piece.  Now, I do drink other teas and those are much smaller, but there are some pluses.  I like the little ridges around the edges which create a great texture.  I also love the color the red zinger tea creates on the teabag.  See the picture above.

Now, you can also add it to your teabag before you collage it.  Ever try stamping your tea bag, or how about doing a little handwriting on it?  Possibilities are endless.  I would love to see what you do with your teabags!  So, have a cuppa tea and start saving your teabags.  You are sure to love these little beauties in your mixed media collage work!
